Three Decades of
Achievement
The APPC was established
on 10 September 1970 at Bangkok as a regional training centre, as envisaged in
the first congress of the Asian Oceanic Postal Union (AOPU) held in Manila in
1965. The APPC was then known as the Asian and Oceanic
Postal Training School. The proposal of the AOPU for establishing such
a centre received the support of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) and the
financial support from the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).
The Governing Board is set up to be responsible for administering the
training section. In Post, as in any other
modern business, training and development of people is a pre-requisite for a
successful and bright future. In order to run Post excellently we need
to equip our people with the necessary skills, knowledge and attitude to meet
the changing environment. Realising the need for
training of postal managers in the region, the Asian Pacific Postal College
(APPC) came into existence in 1970 as a regional training centre for Asia
Pacific. Situated in Bangkok, the capital city of Thailand, APPC
provides many basic and advanced training programs geared to the specific
needs of Post. To put the idea into
practice, the Postal Administration of Thailand generously provided the
accommodation, furniture and administrative support. Other countries that
supported the Centre during its formative years were the Republic of
Philippines, the Republic of Korea and China (Taiwan). |
