1. What type of training programmes are offered by APPC ?

APPC conducts short term training courses for postal managers of Asia Pacific region in different areas of postal management like operations, marketing, planning, international mail, human resources, finance, philately, technology. Apart from the training courses APPC also organises seminars and workshops. For more details please visit Training Directory.

 

2. What is the duration of the training programme?

Courses are of 3 week, 4 week and 10 week duration and workshops and seminars range between 2 and 5 days.

 

3. What are the fees for the courses?

The fee includes the cost of training and stay in the air-conditioned dormitory. Fee per week = US $550. This is applicable to training courses and workshops.

 

4. What is an ETP or External Training Programme?

APPC offers advisory services to postal administrations in different areas of postal management. The faculty of APPC has conducted many ETP programmes in Hong Kong, Macau, Vietnam, Fiji, Solomon Islands, Samoa, Myanmar South Africa etc.
The APPC fee for consultancy is US$ 4,250\- per week, plus airfare, airport tax and daily subsistence allowance.

 

5. What is the nomination procedure?

The respective administrations shortlist participant(s) and forwards the application form duly filled in and endorsed. APPC scrutinises the application and, if found eligible, indicates acceptance. The application forms should reach APPC at least 2 months before the commencement of the course.

 

6. What are the minimum academic/professional requirements?

The medium of teaching is English. The participant is expected to be proficient in English. The courses are designed to act as stimuli to continuously improve the management of the Post. The participant is expected to act as a change agent on returning to the respective administration.

 

7. What are the dress requirements?

National dress (or suit for gentlemen) will be required during the inaugural function, group photo session (normally during the first week) and for the graduation ceremony. Sports outfits- During the first week "APPC Games" is conducted. This is designed to get to know each other and to promote team spirit. Please bring suitable sports attire to enable you to enjoy the games. Participants can have access to CAT' tennis courts, swimming pool and jogging track. Fancy dress- During the International Food Festival, which is normally run on the second Thursday of the course, participants may wear their national costume. Swimsuit/trunks - APPC organises weekend trips to the world famous Pattaya or Cha-am beaches. The beach area is calm, safe and shallow. If you are interested in swimming, please bring your swimming gear.APPC strives to develop the total personality of the participants' through engaging in all the above activities.

 

8. What are the session timings?

Morning 8.30 - 10.00 and 10.15 - 11.45  After noon 13.15 - 14.45 and 15.00 - 16:15

 

9. What are Pre-Course, On-course and Post-Course Projects?

Pre-Course Project - The course director informs the candidate about the project work to be undertaken in one's postal administration at least one month before the commencement of the course. Participants may present their reports using Microsoft PowerPoint during the first week. Normal presentations may last around 20 minutes. Other faculties may also be present during the presentation. A copy of the report will be maintained in the library for future reference. The quality of the report will be reflected in the Participant's Evaluation.
On-Course Project - During the 4 week / 10 week course, the course director identifies the on-course projects after discussions with participants. Participants are expected to utilise the skills learned during the course and apply them in developing the project report. Normally two days will be earmarked for this work. The report is presented before the faculty and participants during the penultimate day of the course. The quality of the report will be reflected in the final evaluation.

 

10. What study trips are organised by APPC?

APPC organizes many study trips to reinforce current best practices in various fields

Visits to the facilities of Communications Authority of Thailand: Laksi Mail Centre, the state of the art automatic mail processing centre of Communications Authority of Thailand, Bangkok Mail Centre, Laksi Post Office, Philatelic Museum/Thai Security Printers.

11.What computer skills are required?

The Pre-course and On-course project report presentations are expected to be made in MS Office ( Power Point and Word). Knowledge of MS Excel and MS Frontpage is advantageous.
